EU-CONEXUS: our European University La Rochelle Université > University > Our strategic projects > EU-CONEXUS: our European University Published on 16 March 2023 - updated on 30 August 2024 Since 2019, La Rochelle Université has been leading EU-CONEXUS, the first European University for Smart Urban Coastal Sustainability (LUDI). Created in response to the Erasmus+ call for projects on European universities, EU-CONEXUS is one of the seventeen alliances selected. As part of La Rochelle Université’s institutional project, EU-CONEXUS not only embodies its international ambitions, but also shares its values: research specialisation, exemplarity, innovation and solidarity. On a European scale, EU-CONEXUS reflects La Rochelle Université’s desire to build a new model of university: interdisciplinary, specialising in research on Smart Urban Coastal Sustainability, focusing on excellence and open to the world. EU-CONEXUS in numbers : 9 partners universities +8 100 staff members +71 000 students 98 research units 3 joint training programmes : 2 minors, 1 master THEME 1: FOCUSING ON A PARTICULAR AREA OF RESEARCH: SMART URBAN COASTAL SUSTAINABILITY (LUDI) Call for projects: Erasmus+ European universities Partners: The Catholic University of Valencia (Spain), the Technical University of Construction of Bucharest (Romania), South East Technological University (Ireland) and the universities of Zadar (Croatia), Athens (Greece), Klaipeda (Lithuania), Rostock (Germany) and Frederick (Cyprus). Because it shares with EU-CONEXUS the same specialisation in Smart Urban Coastal Sustainability (LUDI), La Rochelle Université intends to capitalise on the European University to accelerate research in this field at all levels. Indeed, EU-CONEXUS makes it easier to share knowledge, skills and scientific resources between its member universities. This makes for smoother exchanges and, above all, enables the implementation of joint actions to boost and accelerate research on the LUDI theme. THEME 2: TRANSFORMING EDUCATION THROUGH AN INNOVATIVE, RESEARCH-BASED TRAINING PROGRAMME Like La Rochelle Université, EU-CONEXUS relies on interdisciplinarity and high-quality courses to help its students succeed and find employment. To achieve this, the European University includes the major/minor combination in its range of courses, which has already been applied at La Rochelle Université since 2018. This system enables students to personalise their pathways, by encouraging their curiosity and giving them the time to discover, so that they can better choose the subjects that are most likely to appeal to them. Finally, because training and learning continue throughout professional life, following the example of La Rochelle Université, the European University also offers training to working people so that they can broaden or diversify their skills. THEME 3: A KEY ACTOR IN SOCIAL AND ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT On a national and local scale, La Rochelle Université actively contributes to the social and economic development of its territory. We support and encourage research and innovation projects, and work with a number of local actors (companies, institutions and organisations in La Rochelle). La Rochelle Université’s determination to have a positive impact on the territory in which it is located is now being extended to the European level. The European University develops partnerships both at European and local level. In La Rochelle, EU-CONEXUS has forged links with the marinas and commercial ports, the city hall and Conurbation Authority (CDA), as well as the Nouvelle-Aquitaine Region. EU-CONEXUS and its partners are both the voice of Europe at local European events, and the voice of its territories at European events. THEME 4: BUILDING A SMART, SUSTAINABLE AND ETHICAL CAMPUS Finally, following in the footsteps of La Rochelle Université and its “Smart Campus” ambition, EU-CONEXUS is incorporating sustainable development issues into its strategy. The structure and development of its campus are designed to be eco-responsible, in order to build the “European Green Campus” of the future.
