Call for thesis subjects – « EU-DOCS for SmUCS

A call for thesis subjects has been launched as part of the MSCA COFUND (Horizon Europe) project “EU-DOCS for SmUCS”, led by La Rochelle Université.

The aim of this first call for subjects is to identify thesis topics that could be co-supervised by a researcher from La Rochelle Université and a researcher from an EU-CONEXUS or international partner institution. Each thesis is funded for a period of 36 months. It has to be a “cotutelle” between La Rochelle Université and one of its 20 partners (cf. list below). You can use the RIIS platform to help you identify EU-CONEXUS researchers with whom you can propose a thesis subject or contact the Project Development Support Office of EU-CONEXUS.

An information and matchmaking session, will be held on November 4 from 1:00 pm to 2:30 pm (Paris time) to help you find a co-supervisor. If you want to pitch your thesis project during this session, please send an e-mail to projects@eu-conexus.eu.

You can also identify potential partners in La Rochelle Université’s research units.

Eligibility criteria

All subjects deemed eligible will be published during the call for applications. Verification of eligibility is based on the following criteria:

  • Thesis must be co-supervised by a person attached to a La Rochelle Université research unit and a person attached to a research unit of an eligible academic partner (list above).
  • Alignment of the subject with the objectives of the programme: quality of the subject, response to the challenges of the Smart Urban Coastal Sustainability (SmUCS).
  • The quality of the supervision provided by the co-supervisors (approval from the doctoral schools and research laboratories).
  • Compliance with EU rules on research ethics and response to the SmUCS challenges.
  • Identification of a non-academic partner or a specific company/professional field for the secondment.

Secondment

Each thesis must include 3 months of mobility with a non-academic partner, during which the PhD student will be able to:

  1. experience SmUCS challenges with a hands on perspective in a work environment related to his or her sector of activity
  2. present his/her research activity to the host structure thus sharing potential solutions and getting the opportunity to debate with stakeholders on how this can meet their future needs (impact and dissemination activities)
  3. contribute to any reflection going on within the structure in relation to his or her research domain.

Non-academic partners may be chosen among the list of partners in EU-DOCs for SmUCS (cf. 13 partners below). This list can be extended depending on the relevance of the secondment for the PhD student in relation with the subject of the thesis.
